1 Why Kate Middleton Broke the Dress Code on her Visit to The V&A

The Princess of Wales cut a really fashionable figure as she checked out the brand-new V&A East Storehouse in London yesterday - but one aspect of her clothing appeared to break the dress code.

Kate, 43, stepped out for her first engagement of the month - and her very first given that returning from the half-term break - in an elegant trouser suit by designer Alexander for the occasion, in addition to a white scoop-neck top.

For her devices, the princess chose a trendy belt, Laura Lombardi chain locket, and a set of streamlined black heels from Prada.

But while Kate looked exceptionally stylish, technically speaking, she did break a little-known design rule during her go to with her option of shoes.

'We recommend using practical clothing and flat shoes,' the V&A East Storehouse's website reads. 'The metal grid floor covering is not suitable for stilettos or kitty heels.'

However, the princess appeared entirely at ease and masterfully managed the unequal floors, even while wearing a pair of tough heels.

When asked about Kate's choice of footwear, Tristram Hunt, the director of the V&A, told PEOPLE magazine: 'She is a professional! She handled that!'

He added: 'She had a super energy. She was extremely energetic and focused. We last saw her about two years ago.

'She keeps this great enthusiasm and interest in creativity and making and style. It was fantastic to be able to host her.'

The mother-of-three has repeatedly made using heels look easy throughout the years - even while playing sports, using pumps on grass and participating in horse racing occasions such as Royal Ascot.

In 2012, Kate even used heels to play a video game of hockey and, more recently in 2022, kicked a football in heels during an engagement with her other half Prince William.

She even wore her beloved shoe in her first photos with Prince Louis in 2018 as she stepped outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital.

Depsite misgivings, the princess was such a 'pro' in her heels that she was able to manage any difficulties with ease
